If you've read any of my winter wedding related posts previously, you'll know I love their cosiness and warmth (or gezellig to borrow a dutch word again). The closer it gets to Christmas, the more that feeling comes through, as it was especially for Suzy & John's wedding in the beautiful Cotswolds village of Chipping Campden. Late-in-the-day weddings are challenging for a UK photographer due to the lack of daylight hours in this part of the world at this time of year! But it's a challenge I relish and I always set myself the task of conveying the natural lighting (often candles) as much as I do the role of documenting the relationships and events of the day. It's one of the huge benefits of the current generation of digital cameras that allow me to work in low light conditions quickly and produce a consistently high standard of image.
Everything from getting ready to the evening reception and entertainments was held at the King's Hotel in Chipping Campden. This lovely boutique hotel was exclusively used by Suzy & John's wedding party and gave the day a welcoming and family feel throughout. Traditionally it's the bride that arrives late and causes the ceremony to be delayed, but this day that honour fell to John (although more specifically their baby taking his time to fall asleep - that's John wheeling the pushchair out in the streetlight). Infant sleeping aside, the rest of the day was as relaxed and comfortable as you could hope for, and as always, a real pleasure for me to document.
