Aimee & Sam - Cain Manor Wedding

Aimee and Sam had done some serious long distance planning to organise their wedding at Cain Manor on the Hampshire / Surrey border. Based in Australia, they had made all of the arrangements remotely, including when they ‘met’ and booked me. Where would we be without Skype?!

As one of the Bijou wedding venues, Cain Manor is exceptionally well run and provides a beautiful location around which to build your wedding plans. My day started with Aimee getting ready in the bridal suite surrounded by her bridesmaids and Mum and Dad. Cue the first flurries of emotions of the day with giving her dad a gift, followed by seeing the flowers, seeing mum in her outfit…

Sam had warned me the day would be emotional, and that he would be one of the key people to lose it! He was true to his word very early in the ceremony. The rest of the day was in balance with a great deal of laughter, not least thanks to the pair of ‘dolls’ that appeared during the speeches in place of some guests who couldn’t make it over from Australia. The dolls also appeared on the dance floor just before first dance, and I’m sure that wasn’t the last time they were seen during the evening...

On one of those wondrous summer days when the sun shines, and the brightest part of the day typically falls when the wedding party are outside, I suggested we had two different sessions for couple portraits. Once earlier on (to make sure they’re in the bag, and you never know when it might rain!) and again later on when the lighting was more favourable. It was, and we got a great selection of images that I’ve not managed to achieve by exploring a new part of Cain Manor. The fact we got spooked by robotic, automated anti-intruder announcements was a minor distraction, but quite funny none-the-less.

One of the last things I got to photograph was the first dance; sung and performed by one of Aimee's bridesmaids and her partner. Another personal touch to this exceptionally fun international wedding.
